News - December 2011 - walkway named
The new seafront walkway is named for the jubilee celebrations. A key aspect of Bexhill's newly finished £5million seafront project is to be named in honour of next year's Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
The walkway across the new terraced lawns, built as part of Rother District Council's 'Next Wave' scheme, will be named 'Diamond Jubilee Walk'. Rother District Council's regeneration scheme finished recently and includes; extensive landscaping, a new community park, the restoration and extension of the Grade II listed Colonnade to include shops and a restaurant, competition winning shelters, play equipment and seafront planting selected by a leading gardening expert. The development is designed to make the most of Bexhill's seafront and complement the iconic De La Warr Pavilion. Councillors rejected a renaming of the whole West Parade promenade. Rother District Council leader Cllr Carl Maynard said: "Given the coinciding of the completion of the Next Wave project with Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee, it seemed right to name part of the project in her honour. "It will enable the Council to mark the jubilee as well as celebrate the first summer of this landmark project."
