BLOG - November 2011
The Next Wave is virtually all open to the public now with the finishing touches being carried out. The only fencing that remains is to protect newly laid lawn and to provide a compound for the contractor.
The Colonnade has opened its doors for a temporary winter pop-up fair and west parade has become more popular than ever and is a massive hit with families. So...what for me now? For me this marks the point in the project where I will become more office based. There are still plenty of things to keep me busy: snagging issues need to be resolved; any defects identified over the next 12 months rectified; and compiling all the information for the future operation and maintenance. There is still a lot of work to be done before the project can be fully signed off as complete but having it open to the public is a huge milestone for Rother District Council and one that we are all proud of. The comments now being received are so positive and the feedback puts a big smile on my face which is a great way to remember my time out on the seafront. However, I am also a little sad...over the past two years I have met so many people who have taken the time to stop and chat with me about their take on the project and I have really enjoyed getting to know Bexhill and its residents - although there have been a few debates! I will genuinely miss this once I am back behind my desk again. So - I will have to think about something different for my next blog, as letting you all know that I have completed the Operations and Handover report is hardly likely to generate the same interest that announcing the final shelter design did........ With best wishes, Janice Windle.
