The contract value is circa £3.5 million and was approved at the recent Cabinet meeting in July. Due to EU procurement regulations a standstill period was in place before the contract award could be publicised. Evaluations of tenders by the project team at Rother District Council concluded that Neilcott offered the best choice in terms of value for money and experience of working on complex projects which include heritage buildings, construction and hard and soft landscaping.

Neilcott have experience on such buildings as Somerset House, Cornwall Terrace and the Heals Building in Tottenham Court Rd. Based in Orpington, Kent, Neilcott are part of Walls Holdings Limited and work throughout London and the South of England

Cllr Carl Maynard said: "For me this is the most exciting part of the seafront project. The new rowing club will stand the test of time and will be for youngsters from Bexhill and the wider area a fantastic facility for some time to come."

Malcolm Elster, Managing Director, Neilcott said "We are delighted to be involved with this prestigious project and are keen to ensure the construction works cause as little disruption as possible to the local community"

The first phase of the project, landscaping and resurfacing of the West Promenade, is already underway with completion in October 2010. Contract B is expected to start in October 2010 completing in early summer 2011.
