Next Wave News - July 2010

New play equipment installed and updated designs page

The first piece of play equipment installed as part of the £5million 'Next Wave' Bexhill seafront improvement scheme was unveiled this week.

Lounging Logs

'Lounging logs' are just one of series of features that will allow people to take part in activities as they make their way along the refurbished promenade.

Next Wave will create a series of garden 'rooms' along West Parade which allow people to sit and relax, enjoy new planting schemes or make use of play equipment. Other pieces of play equipment to be fitted in some rooms include 'wobble boards' and beams. The scheme will also fit the promenade with significantly more seats than it currently has.

The first part of the project, along West Parade, will be finished in the autumn.

It has been necessary to build over the summer months to ensure good ground conditions and have the project completed on time. During this time, the Council has kept as much of the promenade open as possible, including the Metropole Green.

Stage two of the scheme, which includes the green, Colonnade and rowing club, will take place over the winter months.

This sets a final completion date of late-spring 2011.

While work is going ahead, the Council is offering short tours of the seafront to anyone genuinely interested in finding out more about the scheme.

These visits can be organised through project officer Janice Windle on 01424 787000

We have now created a new designs page to include more detail on specific elements of the scheme, such as planting, play equipment and technical detail. Visit the designs page for further details.
