Next Wave - Construction, West Promenade
Work on the first stage of the seafront works (the West Promenade) started on 10th May 2010, and with the exception of a few final details, is complete. May 2011 - West Parade Promenade
The promenade at West Parade has been completely transformed. Visitors to the seafront are now able to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine in relaxing garden rooms that offer something for everyone. The benches have been noted as being 'extremely comfortable'. The majority have back rests, although there are some without so that visitors can choose which way they wish to sit and relax. The planting is establishing successfully and is providing amazing splashes of colour as the seasons change. The grass has thickened and is dealing with Bexhill's seafront elements very well indeed! Children of all ages (yes, adults have been seen playing in the wobble dish and on the balance beam) are enjoying exploring the new play equipment installed in some of the garden rooms. Here are some fabulous images taken by Rother District Council's very own Julie Willard... As with all construction projects there are items that we have noted as needing attention, so the contractors are carrying out any necessary remedial works and 'snagging'. This includes rectifying some areas of the resin bonded gravel surfacing, which is likely to result in small sections of promenade being closed for short periods of time over the coming weeks. The majority of the promenade will be open to the public at all times. In addition, the four shelters arrived in style on a low-loader on 15 April and 5 May and were craned into place. Please visit the May 2011 news item for more information on this momentous occasion.
