Contacting donors of memorial seats Rother District Council are currently in the process of contacting all donors of memorial benches that will be affected by the Next Wave scheme. Many of these seats were donated up to 15 years ago and naturally some of these donors may have changed address in that time, we would kindly request that any donors of seats on the De La Warr or West Parade contact us via the details below.
We realise that these seats have significant personal value and want to be able to inform people of the arrangements we will make for the future of these seats and how the scheme will accommodate memorials and seating as soon as further details are known. If you are a donor of one of these memorial benches and have not yet contacted us please do so by 4th September 2009; Mr Ian Roadnight, tel: 01424 787536, email:ian.roadnight@rother.gov.uk or at Rother District Council, 14 Beeching Road, Bexhill on Sea TN39 3LG.
An exceptional response to Shelters Competition. The RIBA (Royal Institute for British Architects) organised Shelters Competition is now closed. We had an exceptional response from architectural practices across the UK and received over 140 entries, this coupled with the initial response to tender for lead architects on the project is a continued testament to the interest this project has nationally . A jury panel will decide a shortlist of designs for the second stage of the competition in early September. The public will be able to view the shortlisted designs and submit their comments for the jury to consider in their deliberations on the second stage of the judging process before announcing the winning design/s in December 2009. Panel members will include leading architect Niall McLaughlin, the project artist Alison Turnbull, the director of the De La Warr Pavilion, Rother councillors and officers. The final shortlist of designs will be published here at a later date.
